At 2 weeks the news is...

Yesterday 28th October 2008, Miz Amaya aged 2 weeks and some hours went on her second visit to the baby doc aka pediatrician aka Doc Mike Morin. She was tagged, measured, gently poked and prodded and declared completely fit and fine while Doc Morin answered a few questions from the parents and Grandma Cornman who was along to vet the Doc :)

This was an auspicious day because Amaya was also celebrating her first Diwali (the start of the Hindu new year and also one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar). This day also saw Amaya's umbilical cord stump falling off and Doc Morin feels she will probably not have an 'outie' but only time will tell. Today was the first snowfall of the season thanks to a freak storm that passed over Albany and Amaya was soooo impressed that she slept through it :)

Amaya does so love her little outings in the car and usually falls asleep but this trip was different as she spent the who ride closely examining her blanket and wondering why her father sings out of tune. She does love it when Grandma Cornman talks to her and really enjoys Grandma time. When mom is sleeping or dad is at the gym, Amaya gets one on one time with her grandparents. During this time Amaya loves sleeping on Grandpa Cornman's chest as he snoozes on the reclining chair or listnening to Grandma Cornman discuss her latest recipe.

Miz Sharma is still feeding like a little Mayur (i.e frequently and really well) and working on sleep cycles that really really amaze her parents as they get 3-4 hour stints of sleep at a go.

More news as it develops...watch this space.......

Our first chat with Amaya

Amaya's first moments

Amaya Saraswati Van Cornman Sharma is now almost 2 weeks old and is proving to be a delightful little girl. Around the time she was a week old she started opening her eyes fully and staring at her father, mother, grandparents and visitors. From the first week where she would wake up very often howling for food she has really settled down and often sleeps(and lets her parents sleep) for upto 4 hours at a stretch before waking up and asking to be changed by her father and fed by her mother. Post feeding she falls asleep in her mother's arms which she has been doing ever since Michelle's stitches healed enough to allow the baby to rest on her.

Amaya had her first visit to the pediatrician and was given an A+ for health, reflexes, feeding habits and general all round behavior. She will be visiting Dr. Morin her pediatrician again very soon and will be measured to see how much she has grown since her birth on the night of October 13th 2008.

There have been so many happy moments with Amaya who will open her eyes and look up at her father as he soothes her with Hindi songs as she waits for her mother to feed her. She is not too fond of being changed and will often play games with her father by squirting everywhere just when he has finished cleaning her up. This is always greeted with laughs and glee by her father and mother because they love the fact that their little laddoo is naughty when it comes to 'making a mess' as Grandma Cornman calls it.

Amaya LOVES to be held and will cuddle up and fall asleep happily on anyone that picks her up. She has been nicknamed 'Squeaks' because of the noises she makes when she is content or when she is just waking up.

On October 23rd when she was 10days old Amaya discovered how to soothe herself by sticking her thumb into her mouth and since then she has done this again a couple of time. She still prefers feeding time with her mother as the number one experience in her young life.

Look out for more news on the little munchkin...watch this space........
